Two people were killed in Maiginginya town in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State as a result of a robbery on Monday night.
According to the Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, the robbers carried out the attack around 3:00 pm, killing Nasiru Yahaya and Isah Bature.
Two people, identified as Magaji Goma and Zurkhalaini Alhassan, were also injured.
The commissioner said the Nigerian Army’s Operation Thunder Strike (OPTS) had informed the government that the attack took place in anger after the military opened fire on them on the Abuja-Kaduna road on Monday.
Aruwan said the kidnappers came from the Kakau area with the intention of arresting the travelers before being chased by soldiers.
Gunmen shot a passing passer-by as they tried to flee.
The military also repelled an attack on the Zaria-Funtua road on Tuesday morning and rescued two people from the perpetrators.
