Residents of a village in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State say they were dispersed by gunmen after attacking them on Sunday.
A resident of Aljumma village told the BBC that more than 50 gunmen had entered their village on motorcycles and opened fire.
However, he said they were chased away by security forces and vigilantes but later returned to the scene and the villagers fled into the bush.
“The villagers are dispersing women and children,” he said.
This comes after gunmen entered Dutsin Gari of Kanoma area in Maru Local Government Area where they abducted people while praying and killed five people after stealing more than 200 cows.
The security situation in northern Nigeria has deteriorated in recent weeks with the kidnapping of the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after he was abducted by gunmen.
