Esther Agbaje, a Nigerian living in the United States, has won a seat in the US House of Representatives in the country’s 2020 elections.
Nigeria’s Punch newspaper reports that Agbaje defeated her rival, Alan Shilepsky in the election.
She received 17,396 votes, meaning she received 74.6 percent of the votes cast.
Republican Shilepsky received 4,128 votes, meaning he won 17.7 percent of the vote.
Ms Agbaje, who studied law at Harvard University and a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania, has worked at the State Department.
