Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Nigerian-born boxing champion Anthony Joshua on his victory over Kubrat Pulev on Saturday night.
“The president said defending the IBF, WBA, WBO titles by Joshua has made boxing fans around the world and Nigeria happy,” said a statement from Femi Adesina.
Buhari described the boxing champion as “humble and disciplined” when they met in London earlier this year.
Buhari also wished Joshua well in his future bout against Tyson Fury, saying “the prayers of Nigerians are with you”.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar also said Joshua “strengthens us Nigerians, congratulations to the champion”.
Anthony Joshua defeated Kubrat Pulev in front of 1,000 spectators at Wembley Arena in London.
