The Kano State House of Assembly has elected Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari as its new Speaker.
The move follows the resignation of spokesman Abdulaziz Garba Gafasa on Monday.
The Member of Parliament for Makoda Local Government Area, was the Deputy Speaker before his election.
Zubairu Hamza representing Sumaila Local Government Area was also elected as the Deputy Speaker.
Gafasa announced his resignation in a letter to the parliamentary accountant, saying he had resigned for personal reasons.
Majority Leader Kabiru Hassan Dashi has also resigned.
Lawmakers gathered at the Bristol Palace Hotel in Kano on Monday to impeach their president, but Abdulaziz Gafasa went there to try but failed to win.
Lawmakers said their failure to protect their interests by protecting the interests of the state government was one of the reasons they tried to remove him from office.
They also accused him of discriminating against some of them, including members of his APC party.
