Four lions at Barcelona’s Zoo have contracted coronary heart disease, according to the city’s animal health officials.
Initially, lions showed signs of infection, which led to tests being carried out.
It has also been confirmed that two people have been infected with the virus.
An investigation has been launched into how the animals became infected, but it is thought they have come in contact with an infected zoo official but there are no signs of infection.
