GSS Kankara Students: 17 out of 333 escape – Governor Masari

Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari has announced that 17 students abducted from GSS Kankara School have escaped from their captors.

Masari said Monday that the children had been reunited with their parents while talking to reporters. He added that efforts were underway to save the other children.

On Sunday Masari said 333 students had disappeared following Friday night’s attack.

“As of today (Monday), reports indicate that 17 of the missing children have been rescued. Fifteen of them have been found in the town of Dinya in Denmark. One was found by the other children, and the last one was called by his father. said his son had returned home, “Masari said.

“All the identified children have been reunited with their parents because we have closed all schools.”

He said security officials had informed him that the kidnappers had called one of the children’s parents who was also a teacher at the school, warning them not to see the military plane again where they were.

“I was told that the hijackers called one of the parents warning them to stop flying the helicopter around them and then they would accept the ransom but they did not say the amount. They cut off the call.

“Most of the children are in the Zamfara State Forest. But God willing the children will return in good health.”

Boko Haram claimed responsibility for the abduction on Monday night. But the Nigerian authorities have said nothing so far.
