Gunmen have abducted a nursing mother in Jigawa State, leaving her one-month-old baby behind.
The incident took place in Gujungu town of Taura Local Government Area after armed men entered Basiru Haruna’s house and abducted his Ethiopian wife.
Jigawa police spokesman DSP Abdu Jinjiri confirmed the incident, saying it took place around 2:00 pm on Saturday night.
He said it was only after about eight hours that they were reported, “which is why we were not able to follow the attackers”.
“We have received a report from Alhaji Alasan Audu, the father of the hostage, that his daughter was taken to Ethiopia around 2:00 pm and her husband fled into the bush out of fear until 8:00 am,” he said. from DSP Jinjiri.
“Reporting in a timely manner does not help. How can the police rescue a person after the offenders have gone eight hours? People must report to the police on time.”
Two senior police officers in Jigawa State were killed and another wounded in an ambush on Friday.
This comes less than a week after the killing of a police officer while attempting to abduct a Sule Lamido University student in Maigatari Local Government Area on Monday.
