Saudi Arabia has launched an investigation into the theft of $ 325 million from its security forces


 

Authorities in Saudi Arabia have launched an investigation into allegations that more than $ 325 million was stolen from the country's defense ministry.


The Saudi Anti-Corruption Commission says it is one of 158 such investigations it has launched recently.


This is the latest in a series of investigations into corruption that Prince Muhammad bin Salman has vowed to carry out.


It should not be forgotten that the fight against corruption began with a dramatic crackdown in 2017, when hundreds of dignitaries, including wealthy Saudi royals, were arrested, and They were detained at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in the capital, Riyadh.


My plan was viewed as a dictatorship, and it drew foreign criticism, but it impressed Saudis who have long complained about the pervasiveness of corruption in the country's economy.


Authorities have now announced a series of investigations into the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education.


But the most important and growing in the investigation is the one to be held at the Ministry of Defense, where nearly fifty people are facing charges - including high-ranking government officials and some wealthy businessmen.


They are accused of committing fraud in good faith and embezzling public funds and using their position to feed themselves in an unethical manner.


Preliminary reports say the alleged embezzlement amounted to two billion Saudi riyals.
