The Nigerian House of Representatives has rejected a call by a member of parliament for the removal of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Honorable Kingsley Chinda of Obio / Akpor constituency of Rivers State in southern Nigeria has urged Nigerians to press their representatives in parliament to begin the process of removing Buhari from power on Sunday.

However, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, described the call as "just one member of the opposition".

"If the call was made after Buhari's visit to parliament and he failed to elaborate or refuse to take our decision, the call would have made sense," Benjamin Kalu said in a statement.

Last week, the House of Representatives convened and called on President Buhari to appear before it to address the country's insecurity.

The security situation has deteriorated in recent days as a result of pirate attacks in the north of the country and the slaughtering of lambs by Boko Haram for 43 farmers in Zabarmari, Borno State, prompting the council to invite him. .

Although parliament has not said what it wants the president to do, he is expected to appear this week after Speaker Femi Gbajabeamila said Buhari had agreed to accept the invitation - although he did not say when.
