The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended the deadline for the integration of the NIN number with mobile lines which is currently underway by almost two months.
Minister of Communications Dr. Isa Ali Pantami made the announcement during a ministerial meeting on combining the NIN number with a phone number on Monday.
The report of the extension is in a statement issued by the head of communications at the National Identity Card Commission (NIMC) on Tuesday, with Pantami saying the project will continue until April 6, 2021.
He said the move was to give Nigerians and foreigners the opportunity to connect their numbers to their telephone lines.
The statement said that so far the telecom companies have received the NIN number of 56.18 million people.
“At the intermediate level, each NIN number consists of three to four phone numbers, and that means that number is for most of the active phone lines at the moment,” the statement said.
