A spokesman for the Nigerian president, Mallam Garba Shehu, told the BBC that President Buhari had made similar trips many times and that it was nothing new.

The Nigerian presidency says the president will remain in office without handing over power to his deputy.

President Buhari will be on his way as the doctors’ union vows to go on strike on April 1 due to lack of equipment and adequate salaries.

The Nigerian president has traveled to London for medical check-ups since taking office.

In 2017, the President spent 150 days in the UK on an undisclosed medical trip.

Buhari returned to the UK in May 2018 to see his doctor, where he spent only four days.

In November 2020, President Aisha Buhari’s wife, said there was a need to improve the health sector in Nigeria to reduce medical travel abroad.

He added that there was no ill health at the moment that could be attributed to the trip.
