Kano state government has banned smoking cigarette in public
The Daily Trust in Nigeria reports that the Kano State government has banned smoking cigarette in public to curb the epidemic, while Nigeria estimates that 16,100 people die each year from tobacco-related illnesses.

The newspaper reported that the move would help improve the health of the state’s population.
Daily Trust quoted Dr Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, the state commissioner of health, as saying that the government was working day and night to reduce the number of smokers in the state.
He also said that there is a bill currently in the state legislature that is expected to create an anti-drug commission that will be tasked with ensuring that drug use is reduced in the state.
